If you’ve been dreaming of a journey that blends luxurious comfort with the thrill of true exploration, Ponant’s latest New Zealand season could be your perfect match.
This year, not one but two of their elegant expedition vessels - Le Soleal and the newly arrived Le Jacques Cartier - are setting sail through these unspoiled waters, offering an insider’s look at some of the world’s most extraordinary landscapes.
From now through March, Ponant will embark on eight carefully curated itineraries, unveiling 23 ports of call across both the North and South Islands. Expect intimate encounters with hidden bays, rugged coastlines, and lush islands that remain blissfully under the radar for most travelers.
In addition, two special journeys will venture all the way to Antarctica, departing directly from Dunedin, granting a privileged few the chance to set foot in the most remote region on Earth.
On January 2nd, Le Jacques Cartier begins her maiden voyage into New Zealand’s coastal treasures, having just sailed from Tasmania. After exploring both the North and South Islands, she’ll depart Auckland on January 25th for an entirely new 15-night sailing that weaves its way to Cairns. Along the route, guests will discover the idyllic Bay of Islands, pause at storied Norfolk Island, and bask in the vibrant cultures of Vanuatu.
Meanwhile, Le Soleal kicked off Ponant’s New Zealand season with a pair of expeditions into the country’s Subantarctic Islands. Guests have the exceptional chance to journey alongside expert ornithologists, getting unprecedented views of rare birdlife, and to witness some of the planet’s most protected wildlife sanctuaries—including Campbell Island, the Snares, and Australia’s Macquarie Island.
Next up, Le Soleal will celebrate the New Year with an all-new 15-night voyage from New Zealand’s South Island to the North Island. This intimate itinerary promises stunning scenic encounters, from drifting quietly through the fjords of Doubtful, Milford, and Dusky Sounds to exploring Stewart Island’s untouched beauty. From there, the ship moves northward, calling at Akaroa, Kaikoura, Wellington, the Bay of Islands, and finally Auckland.
For seasoned explorers seeking the adventure of a lifetime, Ponant will venture even farther south in February. Le Soleal will depart Dunedin on an epic 21-night round-trip voyage to Antarctica.
Joining the expedition will be Jonathan Shackleton—descendant of famed explorer Ernest Shackleton—and historian Lucy Scott, great-granddaughter of Robert Falcon Scott. Their insider perspectives promise a journey rich in storytelling, legacy, and profound discovery.
Ponant’s Chief Executive Deb Corbett proudly notes that each shore excursion is designed to offer genuine cultural and natural interactions, contributing meaningfully to local communities and supporting regional economies.
Expect more than just a cruise: anticipate a curated collection of unique moments that connect you intimately to the people, places, and wildlife of New Zealand and beyond.
This season, whether you’re gliding through pristine fjords, walking among rare seabirds, or standing spellbound on the shores of the world’s most remote continent, Ponant delivers a blend of luxury, authenticity, and pure adventure—all backed by unparalleled expertise and a commitment to leaving every destination just as wondrous as we found it.
