Be met at the airport and transfer to your hotel in the historic centre of Prague. Later this evening you'll have the chance to get to know your fellow travellers and Tour Director at a Welcome Reception. Stay Three Nights: Prague, Grandior Hotel
Your exploration of Prague begins with a tour of the World Heritage-listed Old Town. Travel across the Vltava River to Prague Castle, which dominates the city skyline. Believed to date back to the 9th century, this castle complex – with its network of palaces and churches – is considered the largest in the world.
You'll then wander across Charles Bridge and arrive in Prague's Old Market Square. Stop for some time to explore if you wish and continue to discover the incredible city of Prague on your own terms, with its multitude of sights. Perhaps join an optional tour this evening to a lively traditional Czech folklore dinner and show. (B)
Having become familiar with the layout of Prague, enjoy today at leisure to explore as you please. The Jewish Quarter is a pulsing hub of Semitic history, so perhaps you'd like to head there, or have your camera ready at the Astronomical Clock, a masterpiece in the Old Town Square. (B)
Farewell Prague after breakfast as you board your coach and head to Budapest to board your river ship.

Disembark and learn the vibrant history of Budapest as your local guide takes you to a host of impressive sights. Back on board this evening, enjoy a delightful Gala Welcome Dinner while you cruise. (B/L/D)
Embrace the elegance of Vienna as you drive around the Ringstrasse, taking in some of the city's most famous buildings. On arrival in the centre, a walking tour will provide an insider's view of sights such as St Stephen's Cathedral, the Graben and Hofburg Palace. Afterwards, maybe visit the Naschmarkt and browse the stalls.
This evening, you could enjoy an optional concert, featuring music from Mozart to ‘The Sound of Music'. (B/L/D)
With the day at leisure, perhaps explore the Hofburg area or wander along Karntnerstrasse, the city's famous shopping strip. Otherwise, embark on an optional excursion to Schonbrunn Palace, or head to former soviet Bratislava. (B/L/D)
Cruise to the town of Durnstein and enjoy a stroll past rustic town houses and taverns. Along the way, gaze up to the hilltop ruins of the castle where King Richard the Lionheart was imprisoned. Cruise through the Wachau Valley to Melk. Alternatively, you may wish to take an optional bike ride from Durnstein to Melk.
Later tour through Melk Abbey, an active Benedictine monastery since 1089. (B/L/D)
Insider Experience: Tonight, enjoy a traditional Bavarian experience on board. Sample delicious local beer and snacks, accompanied by traditional folk music, song and dance.
Continue along the Danube River to Regensburg, located in the southern region of the Bavarian Forest. Here, wander along its cobblestone lanes, taking a journey through the ages as you explore the historic streets, medieval buildings and cultural sites on your guided walking tour. (B/L/D)
Arrive in Nuremberg, the site of Hitler's infamous rallies during World War II. Take a city tour this afternoon, which includes sights such as the Zeppelin Field and Palace of Justice. (B/L/D)
One of the few German cities that wasn't destroyed during World War II, Bamberg beckons your attention today. You'll gain great insight during a locally guided tour of the historic city. (B/L/D)
Verdant hills and rich vineyards sit on the edge of Wurzburg. Admire its magnificent baroque palace, the Wurzburg Residence, and walk through Wurzburg Court Garden.
Later, perhaps enjoy an optional visit to medieval Rothenburg, a true fairytale town. (B/L/D)

Today, you're bound to fall head over heels for the ‘City of Light' during a full day of exploration. Will you enjoy a whirlwind romance with the bohemian fervour of the Latin Quarter? Or cement an enduring devotion to the art at the Louvre Museum? Alternatively, you may wish to join an optional culinary walking tour.
Tonight, perhaps enjoy dinner and a cabaret show at the iconic Moulin Rouge. (B)

We travelled to Passau where we had to coach it to Nuremberg where we boarded our next ship (Diamond, even though identical to the Jewel didn't enjoy it as much). Alan was sick when we arrived in Prague, he was able to see a doctor when we finally boarded our ship in Vienna. He was then confined to his cabin for 2 days. Consequentially he did not enjoy the trip as he wasn't feeling well the whole time and the pace was pretty fast.
We heard on the grape vine that the ships had stopped running 3 weeks before our trip if this was correct I think we should have had the opportunity to either cancel or defer our trip. We arrived home completely exhausted not what we had expected on a river cruise.
For us, the highlights of the trip were Prague and Paris. We stayed several days in each of these cities and enjoyed exploring their beauty, historical places and food. We enjoyed traveling by ship but were slightly disappointed by the lack of a balcony and restricted access to the sun deck and fresh air. Didn't quite like the air conditioning having to be used at all times. Some port locations such as the one in Cologne were rather unpleasant, with a wall in front of our window. Overall it was a good experience but I'm not sure if I want to do it again.
Our Cruise Director was fantastic, very easy to listen to at his 'coming events' talks, & his cruising commentary along the way. He was always so cheerful and made himself available onboard & on our land tours to anyone who needed his help or had a question to ask. I did all the land excursions I could and found the local tour guides were very passionate about their towns & it showed as they guided us around professionally, giving us commentary along the way. The age of the passengers on this cruise were mainly of senior years but everyone mixed in well together.
Travelmarvel Jewel did an excellent job of decorating the ship for Christmas & New Year, & made it a great celebration for us! River cruising was excellent & interesting (even when Mother Nature tried to upset things - low water level in canal & snow). Travelmarvel had everything under control at all times! The hotels used in our extensions (Prague & Paris) were also of a high standard. The trip to me was very full on, and we were always on the go, but a real pleasure & so many wonderful sights and attractions to see. (I wasn't going to miss out on anything). I would totally recommend Global Journeys and Travelmarvel for a real worry free holiday, where everything is taken care of for you. Thank you!
