Iconic transatlantic voyage experience     6 , QLD, Australia, Jun 2024
We absolutely loved our Queen Mary 2 Southampton to New York transatlantic crossing. Everything was perfect. We felt the food was higher quality than our experience of other cruise ships and the staff were far more attentive and seemed happier. The quality of the lectures was outstanding. We had lectures from Mensun Bound from Oxford University on his ...read more expedition which found Shackleton’s ship the Endurance I. Antarctica. Other lectures on the Concord by an ex Concord pilot were also outstanding and lectures about the history of espionage. All outstanding.

The ship itself is older but has been refurbished so is excellently maintained. We actually loved the size of the ship. It was large enough to contain all of the usual amenities but it was significantly smaller than some so we found it excellent to get around and feel like we were close to everything. One of the best aspects is that for the number of passengers there are a huge number of quiet spaces that you could go to if you want to be on your own bit equally there was always somewhere buzzing if you were chasing that.

We loved the gala nights - one was red and gold theme and the other was masquerade. It was lovely seeing everyone’s outfits and watching so many great ballroom dancers. However, it was not stuffy at all. We can’t really dance but we were made to feel welcome and it was fine for us to just do our low level shuffling or more modern dance style - anything goes really.

Another highlight was the afternoon tea everyday. Just lovely! Each day was a different musician - string quartet / pianist / cellist etc. the white glove service of fresh sandwiches, beautiful pastries, and scones was just so lovely. All day room service is also included I. The regular price and we really enjoyed this on a couple of occasions.

Apart from this, the whole reality that you are crossing the Atlantic and thoughts of where we were in relation to the Titanic made this a really poignant cruise experience.

Finally, the final approach into New York was just incredible. Under the bridge with the funnels just clearing, followed by cruising past the Statue of Liberty, and finally seeing that Manhattan skyline is an unbeatable way to arrive in New York. We absolutely loved it!!!!
Cunard lost it's shine?   1 , New Zealand, Mar 2024
Not sure I'd travel with Cunard again. This was my 14th cruise and 1st Cunard. It was chosen for destination and being rated a 5 star cruise line. Prior to this we did an Oceania cruise (just pre covid- 2019) and it was 5 star, however Cunard was not up the that standard. While I like the decor, some areas of the ship are getting a bit tired and need ...read more a refurbishment. Some of the crew were just going through the motions, a couple of the days trips were poorly organised and managed, and the trip included lunches were like being in a boarding school lunch room. Queen Elizabeth turned south instead of north!   2 , ACT, Australia, Jan 2024
Despite a change of itinerary due the cyclone in Queensland we had a wonderful time on the Queen Elizabeth. We could not fault the ship - the staff, food, cleanliness were absolutely first rate. I had a fabulous time on board Queen Elizabeth! Met so many wonderful people on the ship. Delicious flow of food from morning till night! The best ever scones!! Sydney To Southampton (Centenary World Voyage)   24 , VIC, Australia, Mar 2023
The cruise was very good all the staff was terrific. The food was out of this world you would not go hungry. Entertainment very good. A passport is required for all Cunard voyage itineraries. This is a requirement of the countries that you will visit on your holiday. You will not be able to embark the ship without a passport. Passports must be valid for six months beyond the conclusion of your cruise. Please obtain or renew your passport/s early.

Will I need to get Visas for my cruise?

Guests aged 2 to 17 years of age travelling as a third or fourth guest in a stateroom pay the full fare less the relevant third or fourth person discount.

If a non-parent adult is a legal guardian, the adult must present a certified certificate of guardianship with respect to the child.

Will I receive a discount for booking consecutive cruises?

No discount is given when you book consecutive voyages. However, when booking a logical voyage, which consists of two consecutive cruises sold as a single voyage, with one booking reference, you can typically expect a saving compared to booking the two voyages individually.

If you were to book two or more consecutive voyages not classed as logical voyages, no discount is given. An air credit may be applicable when booking two consecutive fly cruises, if one of the flights is not needed. What is meant by ‘guarantee’ accommodation?

This means that your stateroom has yet to be allocated. You are guaranteed to be allocated, at least, the grade of stateroom you have booked. This could be situated on any one of the decks that offer that grade of cabin and can be allocated at any time from the date of booking until the day before sailing.

Can I do part of a cruise?

Yes, you may plan your cruise to embark or disembark at ports that are not the published start and finish ports of the cruise itinerary. The full fare for the published cruise will still be due. There is also the option of joining one of Cunard’s World Cruises during the itinerary. World Cruises are broken down into sectors and you can choose to embark and disembark at a selection of ports that suit you.

There may be some ports of call where embarkation / disembarkation is not possible other than the advertised embark/disembark ports. Let your Cruise Advisor know of your intentions so they can assist.

What should I pack?

During the day Cunard want their guests to feel free and relax and dress as you please in all areas of the ship. Every night on board, Cunard ask that you wear smart attire in most of the bars, restaurants and entertainment venues.

Women

  • Daywear: Polo shirts, T-shirts and casual tops, such as a kaftan, paired with shorts, a skirt or casual, lightweight pants or trousers are a great choice or day dresses for a slightly more elegant alternative. Even if it’s likely to be hot and sunny, it’s usually sensible to pack a few cardigans or lightweight sweaters too for on deck and around the ship. Footwear ideas include smart sneakers or gym shoes, sandals and open-toed shoes, such as espadrilles.
  • Smart attire (Relaxed evenings): An elegant dress, flowing maxi skirt and top or combine a blouse and pants or trousers. Complete your outfit with low or high heel or court shoes.
  • Gala Evenings: These are the sparkling occasions with a celebratory atmosphere for which you pack your favourite evening dress, that flowing ball gown or a statement cocktail dress. Then again, you may feel more comfortable in a formal combination, such as a jacket, blouse or shirt and pants or trousers.

Men

  • Daywear: Casual long or short sleeve shirt, a polo shirt, a T-shirt or a sweater paired with shorts, lightweight or cargo trousers. Footwear can be equally relaxed, so you might wish to bring sandals, deck shoes or smart sneakers.
  • Smart attire (Relaxed evenings): A jacket or blazer in the main bars, restaurants and entertainment venues, paired with trousers, chinos and a shirt with a tie or an open collar, or even just over a crew neck jumper. You might complete the outfit with brogues, loafers or boots.
  • Gala Evenings: Dinner jacket or tuxedo – which you are more than welcome to wear with a kilt. Many choose to finish the look with a bow tie, perhaps even a cummerbund. A dark two-piece or three-piece suit is perfectly acceptable too, whether with a regular tie or a cravat. Smart shoes.
Can I pre-board my luggage?

Cunard's White Star Luggage Service™ is the perfect alternative to transporting your luggage through airport congestion and customs.
