Read 12 reviews and enjoy exclusive savings on AAT Kings 5 Day Tassie's East Coast Highlights. What can you see in Tasmania in five days, you ask? A lot, it turns out. East-coast highlights range from Freycinet adventures to tours of Port Arthur Historic Site, with plenty of opportunities to get a taste for the Apple Isle in between. Lavender ice-cream, anyone?

Itinerary

You don't have to arrive early into Launceston, but we highly recommend you do. Time on your side? Walk the short distance to Cataract Gorge, home to the longest single-span chairlift in the world. It's quite the ride, taking you up high into this intensely beautiful, and spiritual, place. Otherwise, meet your Travel Director and fellow Tassie companions for a drink in the evening. Stay: Best Western Plus Launceston

Bridestowe is an assault on all your senses - in the best possible way. There's the piercing purple of the lavender grown here, backdropped by horizon-wide blue sky. Then the musky aroma of the flowers, which has an instant calming effect. And the taste, beyond anything you ever imagined - try lavender in ice-cream, jams and teas, and thank us later.

It's a tasty entrée to the Legerwood Carved Memorial Trees, sculpted into World War One soldiers. Come dusk in Bicheno, sign up to spot tuxedoed little penguins waddle to shore from the water. Touring Tasmania doesn't get any cuter than this. (B/D) Stay: Beachfront at Bicheno

Nothing quite prepares you for the drama of Freycinet National Park - the colours here seem more vivid, the air crisper, the water cleaner, the skies wider. A patchwork of ocean blues lap Coles and Wineglass Bays, framed by powdery white sand and silvery eucalypts. There's a reason why this place stars on postcards. Talk about a Freycinet adventure to remember. The other destination that deserves notoriety is Richmond, its grand 1820s Georgian buildings today home to bijou boutiques, galleries and cafés that appear to be lost in time. (B) Stay: Best Western Hobart (2 Nights)

Port Arthur's rather grim convict past is reflected in the names of attractions around it: Isle of the Dead, Devil's Kitchen, the Blowhole… But believe us, they're all spectacularly pretty. As is the Port Arthur Historic Site, its immaculately maintained buildings scattered over green pastures that fade into the Southern Ocean. Port Arthur tours reveal the best-preserved convict site in Australia, and among the most significant convict-era destinations worldwide. The stories these walls could tell. (B/D)

Short and sweet and packed with highlights - this Tasmania tour is sure to inspire future travels. (B)

Stay: Best Western Plus Launceston

Bridestowe is an assault on all your senses - in the best possible way. See the contoured rows contrasted against the rich red volcanic soils backdropped by the horizon-wide sky and when in flower (late Spring to early Summer) the rich purple tones add a whole other dimension.

Then the musky aroma of the flowers, which has an instant calming effect. And the taste, beyond anything you ever imagined - try a lavender ice-cream, jams and teas, and thank us later. It's a tasty entrée to the Legerwood Carved Memorial Trees, sculpted into World War One soldiers. Come dusk in Bicheno, sign up to spot tuxedoed little penguins waddle to shore from the water. (B/D) Stay: Beachfront at Bicheno

The colours at Freycinet National Park are so vivid you'll think someone has taken the glasses off your nose and cleaned them for the first time: The patchwork of ocean blues that lap Coles Bay. The dramatic pink granite cliffs. There's a reason why Freycinet adventures star on postcards. The other place on postcards is Richmond, its grand 1820s Georgian buildings today home to bijou boutiques, galleries and cafés that appear to be lost in time.

Your last stop for the day is to the shores of the Derwent River where local palawa will welcome you to country and show off some local bush tucker. (B) Stay: Movenpick Hotel Hobart

Port Arthur's rather grim convict past is reflected in the names of attractions around it: Isle of the Dead, Devil's Kitchen, the Blowhole… But believe us, they're all spectacular. As is the Port Arthur Historic Site, its immaculately maintained buildings scattered over green pastures that fade into the Southern Ocean. Your private Port Arthur tour reveals the best-preserved convict site in Australia, and among the most significant convict-era destinations worldwide. The stories these walls could tell. (B/D) Stay: Movenpick Hotel Hobart

Short and sweet and packed with highlights - this Tasmanian tour is sure to inspire future travels. (B)

Great trip but a little short. 2 , VIC, Australia, Jan 2017
Did this trip with my mother and here is my review, I'll try and write it from both my and my mums perspective. It was great to have everything organised and all the little places to visit that you wouldn't think or know to visit yourself. My mum thoroughly enjoyed it and value for money but I thought it was something I could do for $400 cheaper by ...read more hiring a car and organising myself. However as I mentioned the only downside to this is the knowledge. Our guide and drivers were excellent - 10/10, they knew their stuff and we totally enjoyed the commentary at least every hour of some little thing to look out for while travelling along. This is priceless, even the places to stop off along the way have a story or something to see that you just wouldn't know on your own.

We joined this trip after the others had already started a 'longer' west coast tour and after hearing all they did on the west coast tour this one felt as though it was lacking a little. It seemed to come and go without anything "mind blowing". If i have to be honest all I can remember is Bridestowe Lavender Farm and Port Arthur, and the lavender farm wasn't that exciting either, maybe just by the fact it was a short tour seemed to come and go quickly. Our group and our drivers did everything to integrate us, but the other had already been together for 6 or more days and just as we started getting into it - it ended. If you can afford it I'd recommend doing the whole Tassie tour, I'm pretty sure you wont be disappointed and see all Tassie has to offer.

Staying at the Wrest Point Casino in Hobart made it hard to explore Hobart with my mum. Even the closet supermarket was 1 km away. Finally our AAT Kings coach was awesome very comfortable. Optional excursions were limited but there was one night where everyone went on either Tassie Devils in the wild or penguin parade, EVERYONE thoroughly enjoyed no matter which one they did.

In summary - if moneys and times not an issue its worth doing and going the extra mile and doing the whole Tassie tour. But if your an avid internet user and comfortable using the likes of TripAdvisor and with friends (not necessarily looking to make new friends) you can probably work it out yourself for way cheaper, and this particular tour seems like you could fit more in, in the short time. Once again remembering you will not have an amazing guide! We hired a car after this tour and drove to Cradle Mountain and back to Launceston I was able to find a few small towns with some interesting things to do on the way so its possible. Highly recommend Cradle Mountain (which is not part of this tour but in the whole tour). If your a little bit older this trip (or the full one) will be perfect, again if you can afford it go for longer, with everything organised, amazing guides who know everything and meet a lot of new friends. My mum gave it a 4/5.
A great trip 2 , NSW, Australia, Jan 2017
We were not aware that this 4 day trip was part of the 10 day Tasmanian Wonders trip. We joined fellow travellers in Launceston. The trip originated in Hobart 6 days earlier and covered the west coast. We were made very welcome by the other travellers and the tour director once we joined them. The tour director located us in the hotel the night before ...read more and introduced himself and gave us lots of information. Fellow travellers spoke of their previous 6 days being an excellent trip.

We enjoyed every aspect of our tour. Everything went very smoothly including airport transfers and extra nights accommodation before and after the tour. Early mornings, usually 6.30am for breakfast, were a little hard, but understand as there was a lot to cover in the day. Gordon, the tour director, was caring, very friendly and was a wealth of information. We were pleased with the standard of accommodation. We would not hesitate to travel with AAT Kings again and book online with Global Journeys.
Only thing we are unhappy about is the shuttle 1 , QLD, Australia, Feb 2015
Caroline and Tom were really pleasant and helpful and a real pleasure to have met them. They obviously enjoy their jobs and nothing was too much trouble. The only thing we are unhappy about is the attitude with the shuttle. It should not make any difference if we did not use AAT Kings hotels or stayed for an extra day. As a result of this attitude ...read more it cost us $30 for the shuttle and $55 for the taxi to the airport. As a result of this we would think very carefully about AAT Kings in future.
Thought the pace was slow 1 , Australia, Nov 2014
I thought the pace was slow, but I'm probably biased because I'm under 30. The sites were good. Transfer to airport at the end was helpful.
Guide and driver were excellent and we recommend this tour 1 , Australia, Mar 2014
All up we enjoyed our tour of Tasmania. Would have liked to spend our free time in Hobart closer to the main shopping area instead of near the restaurant area as we had already had lunch at Richmond. Our tour guide and driver were excellent and can recommend this tour. Thanks to Global Journeys and Kirby for their excellent service.
AAT Kings ran the itinerary very smoothly 1 , United States, Dec 2013
My comments are in regard to the tour I took along the East Coast of Tasmania. The reason I didn't grade the tour higher is that we didn't see a Wine Glass Bay. I mean, we saw the entrance into it from a very far distance but we didn't have a Wine Glass Bay experience when it 's seen from a look out point. It is just so sad that I've missed this once ...read more in a lifetime opportunity to see one of the most beautiful places in the world while I was so close to it! I strongly suggest you to make some changes in the itienary that will accommodate visiting Wine Glass bay as optional excursion. Other than this very big disadvantage, AAT Kings ran the itinerary very smoothly and the tour guide was excellent and this is what I was expecting. Thank you for my nice holiday and Merry Christmas to you!
