Read 7 reviews and enjoy exclusive savings on Cosmos 19 Day Alaska & the Yukon with Cruise. This Undiscovered Alaska and the Yukon Territory tour features many of the most popular scenic vistas that Alaska and the Yukon Territory have to offer—beginning and ending in Anchorage. Along the way, cruise to College and Harriman Fjords to view tidewater and hanging glaciers glaciers on Prince William Sound and watch for eagles, whales, , and seals. Between Anchorage and Tok, enjoy beautiful views of Matanuska Glacier. Between Tok and Whitehorse, behold spectacular...read more vistas of Kluane National Park’s rugged mountains. Between Dawson City and Fairbanks, delight in the stunning scenery as you motor over the Top of the World Highway.

More magnificent scenery awaits you on your journey aboard the Alaska Railroad between Fairbanks and Denali National Park. Travel through untamed wilderness and delight in viewing the awe-inspiring scenery via wide windows and the domed-roof car. With its six million acres, Denali National Park & Preserve is home to North America’s highest peak and offers majestic landscapes. Your two nights in Denali give you the opportunity to explore on your own or to take optional outings, such as a helicopter ride over the park or a wilderness tour to seek out grizzly bears, moose, and more.

In addition to witnessing breathtaking scenery, this Alaska and Yukon Territory tour offers you a chance to learn about the Klondike Gold Rush. Follow the Trail of ’98 over the same mountains that determined gold seekers travelled in the middle of winter. Visit Skagway and stroll the wooden sidewalks where thousands of hopeful miners came in 1898. In Dawson City, see where the first gold strike was made and enjoy the ragtime music, can-can girls, and old-fashioned casino just as the prospectors did over a century ago.

But that’s not all… your Alaska vacation includes a 7-night Alaska cruise. Explore the remote and rugged beauty of areas such as Glacier Bay National Park, Juneau, Ketchikan, and the amazing Inside Passage. With magnificent scenery, opportunities to witness wildlife in the natural environment, and awe-inspiring experiences, this Alaska tour is a once-in-a-lifetime holiday!

Itinerary

Welcome to Anchorage! Your Tour Director is on hand late this afternoon to answer any questions.

As you enter Whittier from North America's longest tunnel, the panoramic view of the ocean, mountains, and glaciers greet you. As the gateway to Prince William Sound, this is where you'll board a cruise to see and marvel at the natural beauty of the fjords and glaciers. Watch for eagles, whales, mountain goats, dolphins, and salmon jumping out of the cold, pristine water!

Travel northeast through Palmer in the Matanuska Valley, a lush farming region where cabbages can grow to weigh more than 70 pounds in the 24-hour daylight! Up over scenic Tahnita Pass with spectacular vistas of Matanuska Glacier. Travel along Wrangell-St. Elias National Park and Preserve, the largest park in the United States. The area boasts glaciers larger than the island of Manhattan and is home to nine of the sixteen highest peaks in North America. Overnight in Tok, the "Dog Sled Capital of the World."

Join the Alaska Highway and follow along the Tetlin National Wildlife Refuge. Skirt the shores of Kluane Lake, once a meeting place for crews constructing the Alaska Highway. Behold spectacular vistas of the rugged mountains of Kluane National Park, home to 19,551-foot-high Mount Logan, Canada's highest peak. The next two nights are in Whitehorse, capital of the Yukon and the territorial headquarters of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.

Follow the Trail of ‘98 over the same mountains that thousands of determined gold seekers scaled on foot in the dead of winter while heading for the Klondike. From Fraser, your Tour Director will suggest an optional train trip on the narrow-gauge White Pass & Yukon Railway to Skagway. Otherwise, continue by motorcoach to Skagway. Stroll the wooden sidewalks past charming false-front buildings and colourful saloons. NOTE: Operation of the White Pass & Yukon Railway to Skagway is subject to seasonal conditions.

Head northwest through the town of Carmacks, once an important supply station for gold seekers on their way to the Klondike. A stop at the Five Finger Rapids, a major obstacle to the hordes of fortune seekers that passed this way. Reach Dawson City, the centre of excitement after the first gold strike in the Klondike in 1896, which led to the world's largest gold rush. Tonight, enjoy the high-flying entertainment at Diamond Tooth Gertie's Saloon, featuring ragtime music, can-can girls, and Canada's oldest casino.

Highlights on your morning sightseeing tour include Bonanza Creek, site of Claim #1, where the first gold strike was made; and a presentation by Parks Canada regarding the Gold Rush Era. Enjoy a photo opportunity at the SS Keno, the last sternwheeler to run between Dawson and Whitehorse. The rest of your day is free to soak up the exciting history of this Gold Rush town at your own pace. Perhaps a return to Diamond Tooth Gertie's Saloon is in order?

A full day and well worth it, as the scenery is magnificent. Have your camera ready for photo opportunities at Dawson overlook and Top of the World Highway, where the motorcoach will re-enter Alaska, and visit one of the last surviving gold rush towns in Alaska before heading west on the Alaska Highway to Fairbanks.

Morning sightseeing features highlights of Alaska's second-largest city and a visit to the Trans-Alaska Pipeline. Then try striking it rich gold panning with a local provider. This afternoon, board the Sternwheeler Riverboat Discovery III for a leisurely cruise on the Chena River. You will see a bush floatplane take off alongside the boat, see the home and kennels of the late four-time Iditarod winner, Susan Butcher, and see her champion sled dogs in action. Be immersed into the ancient Athabascan Indian culture when our Alaskan Native Guides take you on a tour of the Chena Indian Village.

Board the world-famous Alaska Railroad for a memorable journey through untamed wilderness. Sit back in comfort and enjoy spectacular scenery through wide windows. Be sure to take advantage of the domed-roof car. The ride ends in Denali National Park & Preserve. North America's highest peak, 20,310-foot Denali, formerly known as Mount McKinley, dominates the park's six million acres of glacial streams, river valleys, and multi-hued tundra. After a short orientation tour of Denali, the afternoon is free to explore on your own.

A free day for independent activities. A hike along the many wilderness trails might be good fun. Also take advantage of several optional outings, including a wildlife tour to seek out grizzly bears, caribou, moose, and Dall sheep; a raft trip down the Nenana River; or a helicopter ride over the park. Your Tour Director will have plenty of other suggestions.

Relish one last look at the outstanding scenery and wildlife of Denali before travelling south toward Anchorage. After arrival in Anchorage, transfer to Whittier and board your cruise ship. This remote village is nestled along breathtaking Prince William Sound, home to a stunning array of wildlife, including bald eagles, sea otters and killer whales, so have your camera ready. (D)

Hubbard is the longest tidewater glacier (meaning it ends at the ocean) in North America. However, unlike nearly every other tidewater glacier on the continent, Hubbard is advancing, not retreating; it is forever pushing a little further into the bay. Chunks of ice that break off become floaties for seals. (B/L/D)

A relaxing day at sea provides time to explore the ship's many amenities. With the serene majesty of snow-flecked and forested mountains defining its shores, Glacier Bay National Park offers some of the most dramatic scenery in the world. Keep your binoculars and camera on hand as you cruise Glacier Bay to the mile-wide Margerie Glacier, where you may have a chance to witness ice calving. Wildlife abounds in Glacier Bay, so stay ready-you never know when you will see the fluke of a humpback rise out of the water or spot a lone brown bear wandering a wind-swept beach. (B/L/D)

In winter, the sidewalks are all but rolled up in Skagway, so you can imagine the frightful conditions endured by gold prospectors who passed through en route to the Yukon. Take your time and poke your head into every little shop, from the Trail Bench to Lynch & Kennedy's Dry Goods. The Red Onion Saloon, with its honky-tonk piano and costumed barmaids, is a treasure trove of memorabilia featuring pictures of Klondike Kate, Peahull Annie, and other historic characters. To complete the picture of those rip-roaring days, visit the nostalgic Trail of '98 Museum. (B/L/D)

Located at the foot of grand mountain peaks on Gastineau Channel, Alaska's capital city of Juneau has massive Mendenhall Glacier and the Juneau Icefield at its back door. Visit the rustic shops in town-or get out and kayak, raft, hike, whale watch, flightsee, or fish. There is no end to the adventure because of the long daylight hours. (B/L/D)

Alaska's "First City" of Ketchikan is so named because it is the first major landfall for most cruisers as they enter the picturesque fjords of the Inside Passage, where the town clings to the banks of the Tongass Narrows, flanked by green forests nurtured by abundant rain. An important hub of the salmon-fishing and -packing industries-visitors can try their luck on a sport-fishing excursion or simply savor the fresh seafood at one of the local restaurants. It is also one of the best spots along the Inside Passage to explore the rich cultural sights of Native Alaskan nations like the Tlingit, Haida and Tsimshian. (B/L/D)

Arguably one of the greatest cruising routes in the world, the Inside Passage stretches through stunning landscapes, from Misty Fjords National Monument to famed Glacier Bay National Park & Preserve. Sailing the Inside Passage offers opportunities to spot some of Alaska's most iconic wildlife, with humpback whales and orca plying the bountiful waters alongside the ships, bald eagles soaring overhead and brown bears lumbering on the shoreline. (B/L/D)

Your holiday ends this morning. Please schedule homebound flights after noon. (B)

Alaska and Yukon tour   11 , VIC, Australia, Jun 2018
On our Alaska, Yukon, Canada trip we had the most amazing guide, Wade. I cannot speak more highly of him he made everything come alive and there was passion in the country we saw. We saw such a diversified lot of country and the culture of the land which was most interesting. Even though we had to buy most meals this was OK as we didn't overeat so that ...read more was a bonus considering we were going on a cruise for a week after the tour.

It was fast paced but we were given lots of breaks on the coach so no time for the joints to set and stiffen up. Our days were filled with places of interest especially the days of long travel it made you feel as though it wasn't just bus sitting but we saw things. Wade played a few documentaries which were applicable to each place and gave us the history of the area which made our visit to places more meaningful. Overall it was an awesome trip and I would recommend to any age to go on.
I just love Canada 5 , VIC, Australia, Jun 2017
I had so much fun and my fellow travellers are also to thank for this. Everything was as I had come to expect from Cosmos. Kris was a great guide, very confident, entertaining and fully of information and wonderful stories. Kane was a very careful and considerate driver full of his own stories maybe a bit aloof at times. With all the trips I take, ...read more I always try to get value for money and see as much as I can in the time allowed. Of course this often means travelling long days over many miles but that's my choice. The guide and driver make it as pleasant as possible. With many stop for drinks, eats and photos.

Having the midnight sun certainly helped stretch out the days, as it was always light enough to check out the town we arrived in socialize with the other trip members etc, before setting off the next morning. I loved everything about Alaska and the Yukon but I guess seeing bits of the Glacier fall off on the very first day was hard to beat. The White Pass train showed us some breathtaking scenery and Dawson City has the best piano player around. We were lucky enough to see plenty of wildlife but I think it was the natural pure, true beauty of Canada and Alaska that blew me away.

I enjoyed the cruise but felt that the internet should have been free (not that I used it, not at 79c US a minute). Still the staff could not have been more helpful and again it was a very pleasant first time experience. Great day excursion off the cruise, once again seeing plenty of wildlife and lovely towns. If I had to complain about anything it would be just that I wished things could have been paid for in cash onboard and not always the credit card. Made things a bit more expensive with the US/AUS exchange rate.
Cruise extension was superb 5 , NSW, Australia, Aug 2015
Really enjoyed the tour of Alaska and especially the Yukon. The young Tour guide (MJ), did her best to entertain us all on the very long days between towns. found her stories and games very entertaining, helped past the time on the coach. What can I say about our driver (Lane), he was really great. His commentary and jokes were exceptional. About the ...read more tour itself, I would have preferred to pay a little extra for the tour to include breakfast at all the hotels/motels we stayed at. Also the rooms were nice and comfortable but not much space for two suit cases. Found this problem in most places we stayed. The Cruise extension was superb, I would give the ship a 6 star rating for the accommodation, food and entertainment. had a really enjoyable and relaxing voyage from Seward down to Vancouver.
Enjoyed it immensely 4 , VIC, Australia, Aug 2015
Enjoyed it immensely. Especially the Alaska & Yukon section. Glacier viewing on cruise to Valdez was great. Saw some whales and seals as well. Saw some way out places.e.g. Tok and Dawson City - only place I've seen where a road grader runs along the main street. The narrated cruise at Fairbanks was very informative. Saw a fair bit of wild life on Denali ...read more tour. The white water rafting and White Pass Rail were both exciting. Hotels were generally of a high quality as long as you didn't expect too much in some remote places. Lack of breakfasts was a minor problem as most times we were directed to supermarkets where we could obtain supplies. The cruise down the inside passage was most enjoyable except for the change in the weather making going ashore a damp experience. On board entertainment was good. Cosmos provided transfer vouchers at the finish for people going back to hotel to join another tour. My only suggestion is that the initial meeting with tour leader should be more organised - i.e. all meet at a fixed time and not in dribs and drabs as people arrived at hotel. Took a long time to get through the information with a lot of repetition. Coach driver was well informed on Yukon and added to the commentary on many occasions.
Very good trip made better by a great tour leader/driver 2 , VIC, Australia, Aug 2015
This was a very good trip made better by a great tour leader and driver (Mike & Mark). The highlight was the cruise on Prince William Sound, including lunch, where we saw many animals and the awesome Columbia Glacier. I felt that accommodation quality was lacking in a couple of places notably Dawson City and Denali and that continental breakfast daily ...read more should be included.
Loved it!!!!!!!!!! 3 , QLD, Australia, May 2015
The Alaska & the Yukon - loved it!!!!!!!!!! What a beautiful country, and what a thrill to see so much wildlife. Would recommend this tour to anyone, some of the accommodation wasn't the best but if that's all there is (and it was) it was OK. We had such a good time, Dawson City was exactly what we expected, Tok, what can you say, Chicken - unbelievable, ...read more as was the railway journey to Skagway - another delightful and quaint place. Enjoyed the way the journey started with a trip on Prince William sound, Whales included, Valdez (another quaint one). Jennifer, our courier had loads of information on board, things to keep us entertained (ask her about the Moose drawing competition) what a laugh! The excursion to Jeff King's Husky Homestead was one highlight of many, he was very entertaining, we took the optional Arctic Circle flight to Coldshoe & Wiseman, very fascinating and informative, and of course to finish off the Wilderness tour into Denali Park (forget the snack pack - full of rubbishy stuff, could have had a sandwich and piece of fruit instead), although the day was great as far as wildlife goes (plenty of it) the polish was taken off somewhat by the very, very, long day - 3 hours too long and so unnecessary.
