Itinerary

Welcome to Vancouver! Your Tour Director is on hand late this afternoon to answer any questions.

This morning, an included city tour highlights Stanley Park, Chinatown, the harbour, beaches, and more. The remainder of the day is at leisure. You could take a water-taxi to lively Granville Island with its outdoor markets, street musicians, and waterfront cafés, or visit historic Gastown with its steam-powered clock, antique shops, and art galleries!

Board the Rocky Mountaineer for a 2-day, all-daylight adventure through some of Canada's most spectacular scenery. Travel along the Fraser and Thompson River canyons, before arriving in the city of Kamloops. (B/L)

Reboard the train and continue your adventure as you travel along Shuswap Lake, through the Columbia Mountains, and into the Canadian Rockies. Wind your way through the Spiral Tunnels while climbing Kicking Horse Pass to cross the Continental Divide into the province of Alberta. Enter Banff National Park for a two-night stay. (B/L)

After an orientation tour, today is at leisure. Hike the many wilderness trails in the area, golf, horseback ride, stroll through Banff townsite, or simply relax at the hot springs. Banff National Park is the perfect place for photographers and wildlife watching, and as a visitor you may be lucky enough to encounter some of these amazing creatures, like elk, deer, or big-horn sheep, in their natural habitat. Perhaps elevate your experience with an optional helicopter ride over the awe-inspiring Canadian Rockies – a once-in-a-lifetime experience you won't soon forget!

Enjoy a day of scenic grandeur. First visit famous Lake Louise, where green-blue waters create a perfect reflection of the surrounding mountains. Then travel the stunning Icefields Parkway where you'll stop to ride the Ice Explorer all-terrain vehicle over ice that's 750 feet thick! This afternoon, take the opportunity to glide down the Athabasca River on an optional scenic float trip. Enjoy an orientation tour of the town of Jasper upon arrival.

Start your day with a magical optional cruise on Maligne Lake to the much-photographed, Spirit Island*. Then travel to the base of 12,972-foot Mount Robson, the highest peak in the Canadian Rockies. Continue through British Columbia's Fur Trade and Cariboo regions for glimpses of the soaring granite mountains. Watch for wildlife as you continue to the internationally renowned Sun Peaks ski resort for an overnight stay.

*This optional excursion begins operating in late May/early June.

Head south, following the once-treacherous Cariboo Wagon Trail. From Lillooet, “Mile 0 of the Gold Rush Route,” you'll follow the shores of Seton and Duffey Lakes, with an afternoon arrival and orientation in Whistler. Perhaps enjoy an optional flightseeing by floatplane over the glaciated peaks for amazing views!

Today is at leisure. Explore on your own or soar to new heights on an optional Peak 2 Peak Gondola ride which spans the distance between Whistler and Blackcomb Mountains and is the world's longest unsupported span for a lift of this kind. Or if you'd prefer staying closer to the ground, visit Squamish Lil'wat Cultural Centre, a First Nations Museum and Art Gallery, for an authentic Indigenous experience.

Set sail across the Strait of Georgia to Vancouver Island. In Victoria, sightseeing includes a visit to gorgeous Butchart Gardens and their 55-acres of floral displays, and seeing the Empress Hotel, Legislative Buildings, Bastion Square, and Thunderbird Park. In your free time this evening, perhaps take a stroll along the scenic harbour front.

A day at leisure gives you the chance to have high tea at the Empress Hotel, go shopping on Government Street, or have lunch in one of the many pubs. Your Tour Director will have suggestions for shopping, dining, and additional sightseeing. Take home a whale of a tale by embarking on an optional Marine Wildlife and Whale Watching Expedition where you'll cruise the beautiful waters of the San Juan and Gulf Islands, looking for whales, porpoises, seals, and eagles.

A scenic ferry crossing to the mainland, where the trip ends with guests departing on individual schedules. Transfers to Vancouver International Airport are included. Please schedule flights after 2:00 pm.

Spectacular Canada 0 , WA, Australia, Aug 2024
My husband and I had a great holiday/tour throughout Canada with Cosmos. We call it a tour as you are up early and on the go, not much time for sleep ins. We appreciated the stays of 2 nights, as it gave us a chance to relax and explore. Our tour guide Sharon, was always on hand to answer any questions and give advice when needed. Sharon was very helpful ...read more and full of knowledge. The Rocky Mountaineer Gold Leaf was exceptional - staff are wonderful and the scenery stunning.

There are some places we would of preferred to have had a 2 nights stay, eg Whistler. When you do a bus trip, you get to see a lot of wonderful things but it is only a taste of the beauty of the places you visit. The hotels I thought were quaint and clean and all that we needed to rest at the end of the day. Our only hotel which was not to our satisfaction, was the Sandman City Hotel in Vancouver, old decor with dirty carpets. We would happily book again with Global Journeys, we both had an amazing time.
Great trip 0 , VIC, Australia, Aug 2024
We were very happy with the service provided while on our Canadian Masterpiece Tour. Everything was as described in the itinerary. Our tour director and bus driver went above and beyond their duties to ensure we saw everything and to ensure our satisfaction. The service on the Rocky Mountaineer was also exceptional. We would organsie our travel with ...read more Global Journeys again.
Enjoyable tour of Canadian Rockies and British Columbia 0 , SA, Australia, Aug 2024
This was our second tour with Cosmos and we enjoyed it. We went to some great places with wonderful scenery. Our tour guide was excellent and we had an unseasonably small group (only 13) which helped make it enjoyable. Unfortunately we could not go to Jasper due to fires in the area, but the alternative destinations and activities were good if not quite ...read more the same. Highlights included the Rocky Mountaineer train and some optional excursions such as the helicopter flight over the Rockies and whale-watching in Victoria. Most of the accommodation was good, though the Banff one was out of town, which made it difficult to go anywhere other than the hotel for dinner. We would have preferred breakfast to be included each day - a couple of times we were unable to have breakfast at the hotel and needed to find an alternative. Some of the days were very long including some early starts and late afternoon arrivals. But overall it was an excellent tour and a fantastic destination.
Crazy beautiful experience   1 , QLD, Australia, Jul 2024
I can't say enough about the majestic scenery I've seen. Incredibly beautiful. Our guide Tarek had 26 years of experience to guide us through our journey and was a wealth of knowledge with other activities not included in the tour. On the whole, accommodation was clean and comfortable while being in the 3 star range. The Rocky Mountaineer was also a ...read more terrific starter to the entire trip. I rate this as a must do experience for couples, groups or solo travellers.
Canadian Masterpiece 2 , SA, Australia, May 2023
From booking with Global Journeys to travelling with Cosmos it was very good, sadly the hotel in Vancouver was not the best. But Sharon our your director was very knowledgeable about the whole journey, she was very considerate to us all. All the places we stopped at overnight were good. The Rocky Mountaineer trip was fantastic not to be missed.
