I recently had the pleasure of going on the Iconic Western Mediterranean cruise with Viking on the Viking Sea and it was an absolutely amazing experience. The ship was absolutely beautiful and had everything we could possibly need for an enjoyable trip.
One of the things that really stood out to me on this trip was waking up early every day and watching the ship cruise into port. It was such a peaceful and serene experience. The gym on the ship also had large windows, so you could cycle or exercise while watching the port as we cruised in – it was a really unique and special experience.
We were kept very busy on this trip, as we had excursions planned every single day. We started our journey in Barcelona and visited the Sagrada Familia, which was an absolutely incredible experience. We also stopped at the Medieval Fortified Town of Carcassonne, which was really interesting and offered a glimpse into the history of the region. In Monaco, we had the opportunity to see the Grand Prix circuit, which was a real treat for anyone interested in motorsports.
One of my personal favorite excursions was visiting the Leaning Tower of Pisa and Leonardo da Vinci's museum – it was really fascinating to see all of the incredible inventions and innovations that Leonardo came up with.
As a tall guy, I did struggle a bit with the shower in the cabin as the ceiling was a bit low for me. However, I ended up using the spa and sauna every single day, which ended up being the highlight of the ship for me. I absolutely loved the sauna and spa and it was a great way to relax and unwind after a busy day of sightseeing.
The food on the ship was also excellent and I ended up putting on a bit of weight, even though we were walking around 20,000+ steps every single day. I would definitely recommend bringing comfortable sneakers for the excursions as you do a lot of walking.
My secret tip for anyone going on this cruise is to order the strip steak from the World's Cafe. They make it to order and it is absolutely delicious – I promise you won't be disappointed.
After the cruise, we booked two days on our own in Rome and did all the touristy stuff like seeing the Colosseum and the Vatican. I would highly recommend it to anyone – it was a really incredible experience.
Most of the passengers on the ship were American and Canadian, but there were a few Australians as well. I want to give a special shout-out to Lee, who hosted the Valhalla Club cruise. It was a great trip to meet new people and learn more about the ship.
In conclusion, we had an absolutely amazing time on the cruise with Viking and would highly recommend it to anyone. The ship was beautiful, the excursions were fascinating, and the food was excellent. I can't wait to go on another cruise with Viking in the future.
