Itinerary

This morning, meet your Travel Director and travel companions and head west for a memorable encounter with royalty and academia. Start with a stop in Windsor, home to the oldest and largest inhabited castle in the world, then continue to the historic university city of Oxford. Explore its renowned colleges and historic architecture. Finally, journey onward to Birmingham for your overnight stay. (D) Stay: Holiday Inn Birmingham M6

The Romans left their magic touch on the pretty town of Chester. You'll view the city walls that they built in the first century to defend their fortress and the black-and-white half-timbered buildings, famously known as 'The Rows'.

Take some time to explore Chester your way or join a Choice Experience to Llangollen in North Wales. Home of the International Eisteddfod, Llangollen has a tiny population but punches well above its weight when it comes to serene scenery and an array of cafés, bars and restaurants. Our home for the night is the haunt of the 'Fab Four', with an evening at leisure to explore Liverpool's legendary nightlife. (B) Stay: Ibis Albert Dock

Settle in for a scenic drive north to the Lake District. Here you'll see first-hand why the rugged and untamed beauty of the Lake District inspired William Wordsworth to wander 'lonely as a cloud' in his acclaimed piece of poetry, 'Daffodils'. There's no better way to embrace the area's heritage than to join a Choice Experience and chug between Haverthwaite and Lakeside in an old-world steam train followed by a cruise on Lake Windermere.

Crossing the Scottish border, you'll stop at Gretna Green, where eloping couples would exchange their vows over the Blacksmith's anvil and be bound to each other forever. Resist the urge to tie the knot yourself and continue to the bold city of Glasgow, where you'll have an opportunity to join a Choice Experience for a night on the "toon". (B) Stay: Ibis City Centre

Kick-start your day with an introduction to Glasgow's industrial past and modern revival that has given the city its characteristic gallus strut. Channel your inner Highlander next, embarking on a journey north to the banks of Loch Lomond, where a cruise to Rob Roy's cave could be on the cards should you choose to join this Choice Experience.

Later, the breathtakingly beautiful scenery of Glencoe, 'Glen of Weeping', will stir all your emotions – not least as you remember the brave clans people who fought relentlessly for their beliefs. Local shepherd Neil and his enthusiastic border collies are ready to welcome guests on their Highland sheep farm for a Choice Experience this afternoon. You can perfect your sheep-shearing skills before settling into your Highland hotel. (B/D) Stay: Laggan

Robert Burns once wrote of his beloved hills of the Highlands. Your scenic drive through its mystical landscapes will leave you similarly inspired as you venture to picturesque Pitlochry on the banks of the Tummel. There's time to explore this salmon fishing centre on your own or join a Choice Experience to Blair Castle, home of the Duke of Atholl and Europe's last remaining private army. The fairways and greens of St. Andrews, the birthplace of golf, beckon and you'll have an opportunity to snap a selfie against the backdrop of the famous 18th green. (B) Stay: Moxy Edinburgh Airport

Tuck into a hearty Scottish breakfast with tattie scones and all the trimmings. Today you'll need some extra sustenance as there's much to see and do in Scotland's hilly capital. The Georgian New Town, Palace of Holyroodhouse, the Royal Mile and Edinburgh Castle all wait to be viewed in the company of your Local Specialist, so grab your camera and prepare for a memorable sightseeing tour revealing all the highlights of Auld Reekie. You'll have plenty of time to explore on your own or consider joining an Optional Experience to Rosslyn Chapel or an in-depth tour of Edinburgh Castle. (B)

Cheerio the noo and wave goodbye to Scotland. It's time to venture south on your return journey through England to London, but not before you come face-to-face with Hadrian's first-century attempt to keep the ‘barbarians' out of his Roman Empire. You'll not see an ancient Roman wall like it anywhere else on earth.

Continue to the walled city of York, where an orientation tour will guide you through its narrow medieval streets to the 13th-century Gothic cathedral, York Minster, which dominates the city. You'll have some time to admire the structure's beautiful stained glass before an evening on your own, although York's alluring history may keep you on the edge of your seat. Delve into its tales of Romans, roses and ghosts. It's the stuff great books are made of. (B) Stay: Leonardo

Your return journey to London is almost at its end, but not before a visit to Stratford-upon-Avon, the birthplace of the famous bard, William Shakespeare, who became England's most beloved playwright. It's time for one last group picture as you say a fond farewell to your Travel Director and new friends in the capital of the United Kingdom. (B)

Enjoyable England Scotland Tour 7 , QLD, Australia, May 2018
Overall the tour was very good. All the passengers got on well and the tour guide, Peter Brown was excellent making sure everyone was accounted for and all our bags. Full of knowledge and a few stories, intertwined by corny jokes. Most of them I think just to see if we were listening.

The hotels we stayed in were fine. The hotel we stayed in at ...read more Laggan House I think, was fantastic. In the Scotland Highlands. The itinerary was great. We both loved Scotland. We were lucky that for the whole tour not a bad day climate wise. Definitely will travel with Costsavers in the future.

PS. The driver, Malcom (or Malty) was very good. Always up for a chat and a good driver.
Exceptional tour plan 5 , NSW, Australia, Jul 2017
We were a bit fearful of any punishing daily program, and so were pleasantly surprised that we had options not to go on all the activities. That was really good for us, as I twisted my foot the night before the start of the tour. The tour director was exceptionally good, and restored our faith in a conducted tour program. He gave a very balanced humorous ...read more and interesting background to all the sites we visited. Will happily go with Trafalgar again.
London dreams came true! 5 , NSW, Australia, Jun 2016
It was a dream come true for mum and I, to explore England and Scotland with CostSaver. The tour was perfect for us as this was our first time in the UK. The tour guide Andrew was amazing and so was the coach driver ( we had to take a detour as soon as we crossed into Scotland due to a road accident and did the driver do an incredible job of driving ...read more the huge coach through narrow roads and took us safely into Edinburgh). I'll definitely travel with CostSaver again. It's not just value for money but it's sophisticated, hassle-free and very pleasant. Thanks Global Journeys.
Excellent tour 4 , VIC, Australia, Jul 2015
Great tour of England and Scotland. I was not presented with my Trafalgar pack when I arrived at Ibis, so was not sure on tour start time. After breakfast next morning I went to reception and there was a Trafalgar rep in lobby, so was a little rushed to get my suitcase down to go on coach. Accommodation was for the most part excellent, except in Glasgow ...read more my window on 6th floor faced a brick wall, so no view at all. Disappointed! Other than those small hiccups, the tour director was extremely knowledgeable, and tour excellent. Thank you.
Excellent value for money 4 , Australia, May 2014
Tour was excellent value for money having in mind this was a CostSaver tour. Alan, our Tour Director was very professional and knowledgeable. Dave's driving skills were excellent and he manouvred the coach in a very skillful manner into very tight parking spots. The itinerary was very good and the optional excursion/dining experiences were excellent. ...read more The hotel accommodation was quite good overall and of course, as could be expected, was of a higher standard in the more regional areas.
The tour targeted the very best areas of the UK 5 , Australia, Apr 2013
The tour targeted the very best areas of the UK; hotels good to excellent; the excellent service provided by both tour guide and driver; brand new state-of-the-art coach. Didn't think that it was possible to see England, Wales and Scotland in only 8 days (I am originally from England) but I disagree after this really great tour.
